Don’t Be the Best Hotel for Everyone - Use AI Search to Help You Attract Higher-Value Guests
How AI Search Can Help You Attract Higher-Value Guests
Until the advent of AI, the role of hotel SEO was concentrated on winning high volume searches, usually involving short tail keywords:
"Hotels in Galway."
"Luxury hotels Dublin."
"Four-star hotels Ireland."
The objective was to rank prominently for these searches was and that remains valuable. However AI search introduces a different opportunity. Rather than asking how your hotel can appear for the greatest number of travellers, a better question is:
How can your hotel be recommended to the guests you most want?
AI Search Reveals Much More About Intent
Consider these two searches:
"Good four-star hotel Galway."
and
"Where should we stay in Galway for three nights? We're a couple travelling from the US, we won't have a car and want a luxury hotel where we can walk into the city but also take a day trip to Connemara."
There's a decent chance both travellers are looking for the same room. But the second search tells us considerably more: the length of stay, reason for travelling, transport requirements and experiences they're interested in.
Most importantly, an AI assistant has context which it can use to decide which hotel is most relevant to this traveller.
Higher Value Doesn't Always Mean Higher Room Rate
Hotels should also think more broadly about what makes a guest valuable.
A guest staying three nights, eating twice in the restaurant and booking a spa treatment could be considerably more valuable than someone purchasing a more expensive room for one night.
Another guest might be particularly valuable because they book directly, travel during quieter periods or are likely to return.
So rather than focusing GEO entirely on generic high-volume searches, identify the guest segments that generate the greatest overall value.
Then ask: what would those people ask AI?
Turn Guest Intent into Hotel Content
Imagine your hotel identifies couples taking short luxury breaks as a particularly valuable audience. Look at your website from their perspective.
Can AI clearly understand that you have a spa? Are treatments explained? Does your restaurant content describe the dining experience properly? Are packages and upgrades clear? Do you have useful content about spending two or three days in the destination?
Compare that with a competitor whose website simply says:
"The perfect base from which to explore Galway."
The hotels might offer similar experiences, but one has given AI much more evidence for why it matches the traveller's requirements.
This is where GEO and content strategy start working together.
Become the Best Answer to More Specific Questions
Independent hotels shouldn't try to be the answer to every traveller. Instead, identify the questions associated with your most valuable guests.
A resort might concentrate on:
"Best Irish hotel for a three-night spa break."
A city hotel might target:
"Where should we stay in Dublin for a luxury weekend without a car?"
A country hotel could focus on:
"Luxury hotels near Dublin for a quiet autumn weekend with good food and walks."
These are narrower audiences – but potentially much more valuable ones.
From More Traffic to Better Business
AI search will therefore change how hotels measure digital marketing success. Website sessions and search rankings will remain important. But hotels should increasingly connect AI visibility, guest intent and booking behaviour to revenue.
At Aró Digital Strategy, we believe the opportunity isn't simply to make hotels more visible to AI. It's to make them visible at the right moment, to the right traveller, for the right reasons.
So instead of asking:
"How do we get AI to recommend our hotel more often?"
Try asking:
"Who are our most valuable guests – and what would they ask AI to find us?"
That is a much more interesting starting point for growth. Contact us to discover how to do it.
