Success Story: Knockranny House Hotel & Spa
Success Story: Knockranny House Hotel & Spa
Knockranny House Hotel & Spa is a four-star, 97-room independent hotel in Westport, Co. Mayo, with views of Croagh Patrick and Clew Bay. A manor house with a restaurant, a spa and an events centre, it is a long-standing Aró partner, and its website and booking engine run on Aró technology. In nine months, the hotel has turned AI assistants into a measurable direct booking channel.
By late 2025, more guests were planning trips by asking AI assistants questions such as "best spa hotel in Westport" or "where to stay near Croagh Patrick". Those assistants answer with a short list of hotels, and a hotel that isn't on that list is invisible at the moment the guest decides.
When Aró measured Knockranny's AI presence in December 2025, the hotel had 40 mentions across ChatGPT, Google AI Overviews and Google AI Mode worldwide, and just 2 in the UK, a key source market for the west of Ireland. Visitors arriving from AI chatbots rarely booked either: only 1.54% completed a key action on the website. The hotel already ranked well in traditional search for its own name, so the aim was to make sure AI assistants understood, trusted and recommended Knockranny, then turn those recommendations into direct bookings.
In December 2025, Aró began a Generative Engine Optimisation (GEO) programme across the hotel's website, targeting Ireland, the UK, the US and worldwide at once. The work followed three steps.
Make the hotel easy for AI to understand. The site was restructured so AI systems can read exactly what Knockranny is, where it is and what it offers, page by page.
Answer the questions guests actually ask. Content was reshaped around the real questions travellers put to AI assistants, with clear, direct answers that AI tools can pick up and repeat.
Give AI proof it can trust. Pages were strengthened with the specific facts, figures and guest feedback that AI assistants look for before recommending a hotel.
Because Aró also runs Knockranny's website platform and booking engine, every change could be made quickly and measured all the way through to revenue. Progress was tracked monthly in Semrush and in a dedicated AI Chatbots channel in Google Analytics 4.

The numbers show how quickly AI search can become a revenue channel. From January to September 2026, visitors arriving from AI chatbots generated €11,358 in revenue, up 432% from €2,133 in the same period of 2025. Visitors grew 360%, from 182 to 837, and their conversion rate rose from 1.54% to 3.81%, while revenue per session increased from €8.20 to €11.09.
Visibility climbed in every market Aró tracked. Mentions of the hotel across ChatGPT, Google AI Overviews and Google AI Mode tripled worldwide, from 40 to 124, and UK mentions grew from 2 to 16. Google AI Overviews mentions rose 383%, Google AI Mode 182% and ChatGPT 176%, and Google Gemini, which Semrush began tracking in 2026, now mentions Knockranny 57 times worldwide.
Revenue grew faster than traffic. AI assistants weren't just sending more people to Knockranny, they were sending better-matched guests who were ready to book direct.

Knockranny's story shows that AI can recommend a hotel, but the website and booking engine still have to win the booking. Its results came from optimising both, and from measuring AI traffic separately so the hotel can see exactly what AI assistants are worth.
